R.E. “Trey” Oursler, III, MD, earned his bachelor’s degree in physics from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. His medical internship was completed at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, Washington; followed by his ophthalmology residency at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. Wills has the distinction of being the first eye hospital in the country, and is consistently ranked in the top three residency training programs in the world. Dr. Oursler also completed a LASIK fellowship with the Barnet-Dulaney Eye Center in Phoenix; Arizona, one of the largest and busiest refractive surgery centers in the United States. Working with doctors Ronald Barnet and David Dulaney, he gained extensive experience identifying and correcting the complications that can occur with LASIK. Since joining Graystone Eye in 1999, Dr. Oursler has performed thousands of refractive and cataract procedures in the Hickory area. He utilizes the latest laser and lens implant technology available, including the VISX S4-IR Excimer Laser, IntraLase Femtosecond Laser, Tecnis Multifocal, ReStor, and Crystalens lens implants. He was the first surgeon in western North Carolina to implant the ReStor and Crystalens implants, and also the first surgeon east of the Mississippi to perform the KAMRA™ Corneal Inlay procedure. Laser Vision, the largest provider of laser services in the U.S, consistently names Dr. Oursler in the top 100 laser surgeons in the nation. He frequently lectures on laser vision correction and lens implant technology. Dr. Oursler is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
